SUMMARY:

In partnership with the Mechanical Team Leader, the Mechanical Engineer is responsible for a project’s HVAC system design and implementation and associated project deliverables.  This role assists in the successful delivery of medium to large building projects, developing project concepts and budgets, completing site assessments, and writing reports to create solutions for our clients.  This position is responsible for teaching and mentoring mechanical designers.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Licensed PE.
  • 5+ years project engineering experience from concept to client delivery in HVAC Design, Building Mechanical Systems, and Central Utility Plants.
  • Experience in healthcare, government, commercial, manufacturing, and/or education required.
  • Experience in healthcare preferred.
  • Experience working in integrated teams and mentoring junior team members.
  • Knowledge and ability to review drawings for quality assurance & quality control.
  • Advanced knowledge in mechanical engineering, associated systems, calculations, and construction methods.
  • Experience with various analysis tools for mechanical system design.
  • Experience in mechanical specification development and writing a plus.
  • Experience working with Revit and BIM.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

 

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs and supervises preparation of technical drawings and assessment reports.
  • Develops typical details, specifications, and drawing standards including development of Revit standards in coordination with the team.
  • Maintains knowledge of industry trends and technology updates and recommends changes in approach and client services, as appropriate.
  • Provides design inputs and reviews of team members’ projects to verify conformity to quality assurance, quality control, and best practice standards.
  • Provides technical support and project communications to team, as required.
  • Participates in team meetings to help resolve project issues, coordination with other disciplines, schedule adherence, technical issues.
  • Performs site visit surveys to determine engineering strategies and to document and evaluate existing systems.
  • Visits project sites during construction for quality, progress, and compliance review with specifications and standards.
  • Reviews and provides responses on “Request for Information” and “Submittals” during the construction administration phase.
  • Attends and participates in Owner-Architect-Contractor meetings as required.
  • Responsible for communication with other disciplines, vendors, and contractors to ensure incorporation of all information into project requirements and provides support, as necessary.
  • Mentors less experienced engineering team members.
  • Works on developing a positive relationship of trust with the team.
  • Provides support to the Business Development team including write-ups of key aspects of projects and presentation of work at industry events.
  • Collaborates with Marketing in preparing RFQ and RFP packages.
