From a former train bay to a nationally recognized forensic lab, this space now plays a vital role in advancing justice through science in Harris County.
PROJECT DETAILS
Located in a 15,100-square-foot lease space on the McGovern Campus of the Texas Medical Center, this laboratory plays a vital role in analyzing DNA evidence for Harris County criminal court cases. The facility was once a train bay and has been transformed into a highly functional forensic lab that meets demanding scientific, operational, and security requirements.
The space is organized into two main sections. One area supports administrative and non-laboratory tasks, while the other is dedicated to laboratory work. Each of these areas is further divided into specialized zones, carefully arranged to align with workflow needs. This thoughtful layout improves efficiency, maintains separation of tasks, and supports the integrity of lab operations.
Designed with a focus on adaptability, precision, and user functionality, the project has received notable recognition. It was honored with a Certificate of Recognition for Excellence in Construction by the Texas Building Branch of the Associated General Contractors and was featured as a tour site during the 2016 Laboratory Design Conference.
