This renovation reimagined a decades-old space with modern functionality, natural light, and seamless coordination to support long-term use and immediate performance.
PROJECT DETAILS
The fifth floor of the 1001 Preston building underwent its first full-floor renovation since the building’s original construction in 1975, marking a significant investment in the longevity and functionality of the existing structure. Johnston’s design approach emphasized a balance between tradition and transparency, blending classic finishes with extensive use of glass and natural light. The result is a bright, open, and timeless space that reflects the values and evolving needs of the client.
Reprogramming the floor allowed for greater workplace efficiency and adaptability. The renovated layout introduced dedicated huddle rooms, acoustically treated conference and training areas, organized storage, and curated library spaces—all designed to support collaboration, focus, and professional development.
Midway through construction, the client identified the need to replace the air handler units serving the floor. Johnston’s team worked in close coordination with the general contractor to stage and install the new units with minimal disruption to the renovation process or project timeline. The result is a future-forward space that supports performance, comfort, and longevity within a thoughtfully preserved building shell.
