SUMMARY:
With supervision from the Team Lead, the Senior Plumbing Designer creates plumbing drawings using Revit and coordinates with the design team using BIM. This role works as a member of the project design team to coordinate the design development, production, and delivery of engineering documents. Some assignments require independent action and decision making. This position reports to the Plumbing Team Leader.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering preferred or 10 years of plumbing design equivalent experience required.
- Designs plumbing systems for healthcare, government, advanced manufacturing, laboratory buildings and/or technology project design including existing renovations/retrofits and new construction.
- Performs calculations of plumbing and fire protection elements.
- Works closely with the project team and assists fellow engineers with duties on complex projects to meet production deadlines.
- Assists the project team leader in ensuring that documentation for all phases conforms to QA/QC and Johnston Best Practice Standards.
- Knowledge of building and plumbing codes.
- Advanced knowledge about sustainability, integrated design, LEED guidelines.
- Develops, modifies, and reviews Revit models of plumbing systems and components to establish standards and Revit modeling techniques based on input from the engineering team.
- Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook.
- Proficiency in Revit and BIM required.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops and modifies Revit models of plumbing systems and components including piping diagrams, system distribution, and fixture & equipment schedules, according to established standards and Revit modeling techniques with minimal input from the Team Leader.
- Checks model for design interferences with other building elements and resolves conflicts.
- Produces equipment schedules and details making changes and adjustments as necessary with input from the engineering team.
- Assists in the development and implementation of engineering and design concepts for domestic water, compressed laboratory gases, medical and natural gas systems, purified water, sanitary, and storm water collection systems. Visits project sites during construction administration to conduct quality, progress, and compliance reviews with design documents.
- Respond to Submittals and RFIs.
- Mentors and monitors the work of design team members.
- Actively seeks new knowledge related to engineering practices, principles, and regulation changes.
- Participates in preparation and coordination of the project specifications with construction documents.
