Senior Electrical Designers (2) – Houston

SUMMARY:

With supervision from the Project Engineer, the Senior Electrical Designer creates mechanical drawings using Revit and coordinates with the design team using BIM. This role works as a member of the project design team to coordinate the design development, production, and delivery of engineering documents. Some assignments require independent action and decision making. This position reports to the Electrical Engineering Team Leader.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma required. Bachelor of Science in Engineering preferred.
  • 5+ years of electrical drafting and/or design experience from concept to client delivery.
  • Experience working on healthcare, government, education, and/or technology project design.
  • Healthcare experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of integrated design and architecturally significant buildings.
  • Proficiency in Revit and BIM required.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of building codes.
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical systems and equipment.
  • Advanced knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of plans, sections diagrams and equipment schedules, and drawings.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops and modifies Revit models of electrical systems and components including one-line diagrams, power distribution, lighting, panel schedules, and communication systems according to established standards and Revit modeling techniques with minimal input from the Project Engineer.
  • Checks model for design interferences with other building elements and resolves conflicts.
  • Produces equipment schedules and details making changes and adjustments as necessary with input from the engineering team.
  • Sizes simple electrical systems.
  • Assists Team Leader and Project Manager in ensuring that documentation for all phases conforms to QA/QC and Johnston Best Practice Standards.
  • Visits project sites during construction administration to conduct quality, progress, and compliance review with design documents.
  • Mentors and directs the work of less experienced design team members.
  • Actively seeks new knowledge related to engineering practices, principles, and regulation changes.
