Johnston provided programming and design services for a portion of Level 2 of Ben Taub Hospital, to incorporate an Observation Unit as overflow for the Emergency Department.
PROJECT DETAILS
The area identified for the programming/assessment encompassed the south-west corner of the floor, where Rehab and Nursing Executive Administration were located. The assessment concentrated on looking at the feasibility of using this space for an Observation Unit, with private rooms and all required support spaces. This required an analysis of the operational plan and the physical infrastructure of the area.
Work included the design of a 21-bay observation unit on the 2nd floor of the Ben Taub Hospital. The scope of work included the demolition of an existing space and a rebuild into the new Ben Taub observation unit with nineteen (19) regular bays and two (2) isolation bays, three (3) nurse stations and other required support areas for the Unit. Also included were flooring and interior finishes, new infrastructure; concrete; metals; wood, plastics, and composites; thermal and moisture protection; openings; finishes; specialties; equipment; furnishings; fire suppression; plumbing; HVAC; electrical; communications; electronic safety and security.
