Relocated and expanded for greater speed and efficiency, the new Blood Bank strengthens Ben Taub’s trauma response and surgical support capabilities at every level.
PROJECT DETAILS
As part of Phase I of the multi-phase upgrade to Ben Taub Hospital’s Level 1 Trauma Center Operating Rooms, the Blood Bank was strategically relocated and expanded to better serve the growing needs of the hospital’s surgical services. The original Blood Bank was undersized and poorly located, contributing to inefficiencies and delays in the delivery of blood products during critical surgical procedures.
Working closely with Ben Taub stakeholders, our team identified an optimal location for the new Blood Bank—directly adjacent to the new surgical suite and across from the hospital’s main elevator bank. This strategic positioning dramatically improves circulation and enables staff to quickly distribute blood products to surgical teams and other hospital departments on multiple levels.
The newly expanded Blood Bank encompasses approximately 3,800 square feet, offering enhanced space for staff, refrigeration units, and specialized equipment. The updated facility not only supports improved operational efficiency but also elevates the hospital’s capacity to deliver timely and life-saving transfusion support in trauma and emergency situations.
This effort represents a key milestone in the broader renovation of Ben Taub’s surgical services, which also includes the addition of seven new operating rooms—two of which are hybrid suites—and a new Post-Anesthesia Care Un
