SUMMARY:

The Mechanical Designer works as a member of the project design team to coordinate the design development, production, and delivery of complex engineering projects. Some assignments may require independent action and decision making, as well as ability to supervise others.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & KNOWLEDGE:

▪ High school diploma.
▪ One to five years of mechanical design experience working on one or more of the following building types: healthcare, education, institutional, justice. Healthcare preferred.
▪ Experience working and coordinating with integrated teams.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

▪ Knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
▪ Knowledge of building codes.
▪ Knowledge of mechanical systems and equipment.
▪ Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of plans, sections diagrams and equipment schedules, and drawings.
▪ Proficiency in Revit and BIM required.
▪ Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
▪ Basic knowledge about sustainability, integrated design, and LEED guidelines.
▪ Ability to work independently and effectively meet deadlines.
▪ Ability to communicate, both verbal and written.
▪ Ability to work in a team environment.
▪ Ability to modify and review Revit models of mechanical systems and components including ductwork and piping systems according to established standards and Revit modeling techniques.
▪ Assists team leader in ensuring that documentation for all phases conforms to QA/QC and Johnston Best Practice Standards.
▪ Works closely with project team and assists to complete projects on aggressive schedules.
▪ Performs all work in a clear, complete, and accurate manner.
▪ Proficiency in Revit to check the design for interferences with other building elements, resolves conflicts with other team members.
▪ Ability to produces equipment schedules, making changes and adjustments as necessary with input from the engineering team.
▪ Seeks new knowledge related to engineering practices, principles and regulations changes.
